Guest Post: Choices by Flossy Azu

Photo Source Standing in front of the mirror I had an internal war over which skirt to put on for the event. After lives were lost and blood was spilt over this turmoil; I put on a pair of jeans and called it a day. Walking out the door I couldn’t shake the feeling of the weight of what I just had to endure. Life is about the choices we make. Beyond a certain point, be it the number of times you’ve blown out the candles on your birthday cake or the number of children you’ve borne and ruined, you realize that the choices that you make become exponentially significant in shaping your experience and influence in this world. Now the thing is life has always been about choices, but soon enough the choices that you make seem to matter a whole lot more. This daunting task could make it difficult for you to get out of bed and face a new day. “What if I ruin my life with one stupid choice today?” could cripple you for a long time. At the end of the day though making wise choices seem

Circum-Alert: The Springboard Roadshow MMXIV (February 1 - March 15, 2014)

A couple of years ago I was invited by Albert and Comfort Ocran of Legacy and Legacy to participate in their JoyFM radio show, The Springboard Show. It was great being on national radio and giving insights on blogging, but the most interesting aspect of that experience was my discussion with the Ocrans our our way home after they offered me a ride.  Long story short, we discussed the importance of leadership, professional and self-development in creating a renaissance of sorts in Ghana and on our continent. With innovative initiatives like the Springboard Road Show, Festival of Ideas and the Knowledge Center, Legacy & Legacy is at the forefront of empowering Ghanaians who dare to dream.  The 2014 edition of the Springboard Road Show themed "Repositioning" will kick off from February 1 to March 15, 2014 and will focus on Entrepreneurship, Career and Finance.  The aim? Business coaching and entrepreneurial skills training to 30,000 tertiary students an

Tunisia: Mapping Out Tunis & Finding My Place

It's been almost a month since I moved to Tunis, and many folks have been asking about my initial impressions. My response: Tunis and I are still learning each other. And really, that's what it is. For whatever reason, Tunis is hard to decipher. Besides the obvious preference for pink/fuchsia in interior decor (don't ask), the undeniable tea culture, and the fact that most women seem to wear platforms, it's been hard to get a handle on it so far.  In many ways, Tunisia is the most culturally novel and nuanced place I've come across in my travels thus far. Situated on the tip of North Africa, this African/Arab/Mediterranean city has so many influences. Besides the diversity of Africans living here, the French, the Italian pizzas and Roman influences in the city of Carthage which was once the most powerful city in the then-modern world (even more than Rome, definitely on my to-do list!), the most obvious thing about Tunis is the Arab or Islamic influences. The Beautiful Game of Football: Ghana 6 Egypt 1 (WC Qualifier)

Yesterday the Black Stars kicked expectations and skepticism to the curb in what was perceived by many football pundits as being "an uphill challenge" against Egypt's multiple-time WC qualifier The Pharaohs. The words being used to describe what Ghana did to Egypt include "thrashed" , "crushed" and "run a riot" . But to me, this game was one of the most beautiful shows of leg action the Ghanaian National team has exhibited in a long time. It's so beautiful, I had to share. Congrats again to the Black Stars and Coach Kwasi Appiah - who also showed some of his detractors, ha! - and all the best as we chart our course to Brazil 2014 (and avenge the WC finale we were Suarezed out of :P)! You make Ghana proud! After all is said and done, even the Pharaohs looked up to the Stars ;)
